This sign is located right after you cross the railroad tracks. The road continues down to the boat ramp into the water. Purvis Cemetery (Moultrie County, Illinois) is located about 300 feet right in front of this sign in the tree line. This is the only sign you will see to know you are close. We had to park the car and walk back into the tree line to find the cemetery. My 3 x great grandfather is buried there, George PURVIS born 14 Jul 1812 in Bath, Kentucky and died 19 Jul 1889 in East Nelson, Moultrie, Illinois. He married Cassandra WALLER 19 Mar 1833 in Ash Grove, Shelby, Illinois. George is buried with his second wife, Mahala POOR.

OMG Alice! We may be related!!!
ReplyDeleteMy 4th great grandparents are Peter Solomon and Camilla Womack. Among their children are sons Abner Solomon and James Arthur Solomon (from who I descend).
Abner Solomon and his wife Margaret Reynolds had a daughter Nancy Jane Solomon who married JOHN WESLEY PURVIS ON 2 November 1871 in Moultrie County, Illinois. John's parents are William M. Purvis and Eliza McMahan Berry. Eliza is the niece of Camilla Womack (above).
My Solomon family lived in the Jonathan Creek Township area of Moultrie Creek for over 50 years. They married into other area families like:
PURVIS
MUSGROVE
REYNOLDS
DAUGHTERY
FULTON
So what do you think? Same Purvis family???
