Surname Saturday - 01/23/10

The surname for today is TUCKER.  This is my Dad's line.  There have been TUCKER families in the United States since the 1600's.  I joined the Tucker Cousins Discussion Group and even had my brother Y-DNA tested at Family Tree DNA to help figure out which line I belong.  As part of the Y-DNA testing, I joined the Tucker Surname group at Family Tree DNA.   There are a lot of really good long time researchers that belong to the group.  What prompted me to ask my brother to get Y-DNA tested in the first place was as I was researching my Dad's line on Ancestry.com my research was leading me in one direction but thanks to the long time researchers and other cousins, they believed I was going down the wrong path.  After I got the test results, it turned out that they were correct.  Most of the family trees that I found at the time on ancestry were incorrect!  With Y-DNA proof, I now know up to a point which line I belong.  They divided up the various TUCKER groups by the oldest known relative.  I belong to the TTT group which stands for Thomas TUCKER/TOOKER that was from England.  Unfortunately, it also created a brick wall for me!  I have been unable to find any proof of who the father is of my most recent common ancestor with my cousins.  Luckily, thanks to my cousin Walt TUCKER, he has pretty good records that he shared with me about our common ancestor.  So here goes with the information I do know:

Eli(as) TUCKER
b. 23 Dec 1849 in Russell, Kentucky
d. 11 Jun 1919 in Russell, Kentucky

Gabriel TUCKER
b. 1803 in Adair, Kentucky

William W TUCKER

We believe that he married Martha BALLINGER and her father was Moses BALLINGER

  1. Hi Alice. I got your comment on my blog about joining the Eastern Star but you didn't give me your email to contact you back. Once your husband has completed his 3rd degree and has become a Master Mason, both you had he are eligible to join the Eastern Star. The Grand Chapter of Illinois' website is www.illoes.org. I took a look at it and there is a chapter in Champain, Hope Chapter #104, on Bel Aire Court - contact number is 217-352-7099 - you can request a petition to join from them. You can tell them that I referred you to them (my full name and title is Alana Farrell, Past Grand Matron of Quebec). If you need any help, you can email me at alana dot farrell at sympatico dot ca.

  2. I had at least four relatives die at River Raisin - Thomas Coleman Graves was killed outright and his brother, Benjamin was captured and presumed killed. Another was Alfred Chinn, who died from wounds, and the third was John Woolfolk. I used to live about an hour from Monroe, Michigan and finally got a chance to go to the battle center there.
